A couple living in England have had their asylum claim rejected. They came to the country from Pakistan where they faced been killed in an honour killing.
They are married but their relatives disapprove of the marriage. They also have children. They cannot claim asylum because they are not at risk of been
punnished in their country for going against the government. Both of them speak reasonabley good English and the man said that he wasn't interested in
claiming benefits. He just wants the right to work here and he'll get a job and he'll pay for himself. Both the man and the woman are inteligent. The Jineva
Convention applies only to people who face punnishments for political reasons, because of their race, religion, or because they are from an oppressed social
group. Women from Pakistan are viewed by the UK to be a social group which is descriminated against. This gives the woman in this situation some hope.
However, there is no legislation to protect the man. The Home office believes the couple will be safe in another part of Pakistan but the law is the same
everywhere and there is no laws over there to protect them from being killed. I think that these people are in more danger than some people who claim political
asylum. It is clear that they are not after the counries money. They just want safety and security and to make a contribution to society. As they can both
speak deesent English, there is absolutely no justification for sending them back to Pakistan. The law on this matter needs to e changed. For these people
it'll probably be too late though, they are awaiting deportation. In their community they are not liked because of the stereotyping attached to asylum
seakers. Not all asylum seakers are bad. I am against asylum seakers who aren't willing to obey the laws of the country they're claiming asylum in, not
able to speak the language of that country or not willing to make a valid contribution to society, and it is only right that they are severely punnished
in a manor which will prevent them from ever breaking any law anywhere again! I think that it needs to be established where people who claim asylum have
come from. If a lot of people come from Pakistan because they face persecution for marrying someone their family didn't approve of, then obviously sanctions
should be imposed on that country until it improoves its civil rights. I know it is important to maintain good relations with Pakistan because of the War
On Terror, but that doesn't mean that because both countries have good relations with each other, one should be able to treat its citizens badly. Also
there's no extradition treaty with Pakistan and I think we should have an extradition treaty with every country. Then since Pakistan is unwilling to do
anything about situations like this, we could demand the extradition of all members of the tribes or families connected with this couple, and we could
punnish all those who are against the marriage in a way which will prevent them from ever wanting to put anyone at risk because of who they marry, and
from ever supporting or encouraging the endangering of people because of who they marry. A persons culture should never be used to justify their behaviour.
It is merely an explaination for their attitude. These people need to change into people who embrace freedom within reason, and who don't wish to try to
impose unnecessary restrictions on people. If they can't be changed, they should be got rid of. They're dangerous and it is not good to have dangerous
people in society. In this country someone has been killed for having a relationship with a girl. Her family didn't approve of the relationship. Some went
to Pakistan and are protected there because there isn't an extradition treaty. We need to make it illegal for anyone to decide who somebody marries if
that person doesn't want them to and people who think making decisions about who their family members marry is okay need to be forced to adopt fvalues
which will make them think deciding who their relatives marry is unacceptable, because it absolutely is! unless of course their relatives have asked them
to choose someone for them to marry.
Hmm I think the hardline stance you advocate would only cause more hatred in the more hard line Muslim factions occupying Pakistan..namely Al Qaida for 1..In the case of the family in question there is no doubt that they should be accepted. However, how many have pleaded the same case, while lying through their teeth.. how do you propose to accurately root out the cheats, without antagonising the volatile muslim comunity, here and abroad...
personally I think anyone who is prepared to work for a living, who can support themselves until such times as they can gain employment, should be allowed to come and live here. I know some might see that as going too far but I see it from this perspective.. I grew up in another country, I was, to all intents and purposes, an imigrant there, therefore I can't really sit and criticize people for wanting to migrate to this country. I would like to emphasize though, are able and willing to work, and can support themselves. I do not think imigrants should be entitled to benefits.
Yeah they shouldn't get benefits and then people wouldn't want to come here because of those benefits.
Eh right now in Scotland neither are they allowed to work or recieve benefits and yet, we have a whole community of supposedly threatened imigrants, and they are all men! I condemn a society which treats women with such complete contempt...
